Information on how to apply for a visa for the People's Republic of China:
Required documents
- Passport, valid for at least another 6 months and with at least one empty page for the visa application
- A complete and legibly filled-out application form (block letters) with one photograph
- Airline tickets (return flight), hotel booking or confirmation of the destinations in China
- Applicants (German and foreigners), who want to visit their family members in China, must also include a certificate of the family relation (from the civil registry)
- Invitation from the responsible ministries, provincial governments or companies and organizations of the People's Republic of China authorized by them for the business visa (original)
- Work permit from the Ministry of Labour and Social Security of the People's Republic of China or expert certificate from the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs
- Official invitation from the responsible offices (original and copy) for the work visa
- An AIDS test is necessary for stays of more than 6 months
- Applicants without German citizenship need a valid residence permit (original and copy) from Germany. Otherwise, the visa application must be made in the native country
Visa fee
- Business visa for German citizens for multiple entry for six months € 40 and for one year € 60
- Business visa for passport-holders without German citizenship for six months € 70 and for one year € 100 for multiple entries
- Business visa for US citizens € 90
- In very urgent cases, it is possible to effect preferred processing by paying extra fees (€ 30/€ 20). The regular processing time is four working days.
Other important things
- The application must be handed in no sooner than 50 days prior to the planned journey.
- All documents must be handed in and picked up in person or by proxy. Visa applications per mail are not accepted (There are two special agencies in Munich that have specialized for this task and are happy to make these trips for you). Ask us!
- Check the visa when picking it up, subsequent claims are not accepted.
- The forms can be printed out at the General Consulate of the People's Republic of China in Munich.
- Travelers whose visa is marked with X. Z. J-a have to report within 30 days after entry to the local authorities for public safety and complete the necessary formalities.
- Working without a permit is not allowed in China.

Information on importing goods
- The importer must arrive in China before his goods in order to have sufficient time to deal with all the formalities concerning the imported goods.
- Within six months after entry, one air-freight shipment and one sea-freight shipment of personal goods may be brought in.
- Both the employer and the owner of the arriving goods must have them registered prior to their arrival, and the resulting permit must have been obtained.
It is prohibited to import
- Drugs and poisons
- Fresh foodstuffs
- Weapons and ammunition
- Pornographic and anti-governmental literature, films etc.
- Endangered or rare animal species / animal products
